The Kashmir Great Lakes Trek (KGL) is a 72km journey that takes you through some of the most spectacular high-altitude landscapes on earth. At Travel Etios Kashmir, we provide elite trekking support to ensure your journey is safe, comfortable, and unforgettable. Below is our definitive day-by-day itinerary for the 2026 season.
Meet our representative at Srinagar Airport. A 3-hour drive takes you to the Sitinshi base camp (near Sonmarg). This is a crucial day for acclimatization and meeting your trek leader. Stay in premium alpine tents with a welcome dinner.
Distance: 11km | Time: 6-7 hours. The trek begins with a steep climb through pine forests to reach the Nichnai Pass. From here, you descend into the valley of Vishansar, the 'Lake of Vishnu'.
Distance: 12km | Time: 7-8 hours. The most dramatic day of the trek. You will cross the Gadsar Pass (13,750 ft), the highest point of the journey. The views of the Kishansar and Vishansar lakes from the top are life-changing.
Distance: 10km | Time: 5-6 hours. A relatively easier day across high-altitude meadows. You will reach the Satsar lakes, a cluster of seven small connected lakes in a rocky basin.
Distance: 9km | Time: 6 hours. Cross the Zaj Pass to witness the mighty Harmukh peak and the twin lakes of Gangabal and Nundkol. This is the spiritual heart of the trek.
Distance: 13km | Time: 6 hours. A long descent through the meadows of Butsheri to reach the ancient temple ruins of Naranag. Our Innova Crysta will be waiting to take you back to Srinagar.
