KGL Trek: Detailed 7-Day Itinerary

A day-by-day breakdown of the legendary Kashmir Great Lakes Trek. Prepare your mind and body for steep ascents, endless meadows, and the most spectacular alpine scenery in the Himalayas.


Day 1 & 2: Sonmarg to Nichnai

Arrive in Srinagar and drive to the basecamp at Shitkadi (Sonmarg). On Day 2, the trek officially begins with a steep ascent through dense pine forests, eventually opening up to the sprawling Nichnai meadow. (Approx. 6 hours walking).

Day 3 & 4: The Twin Lakes & Gadsar Pass

Cross the Nichnai pass to reach the stunning Vishansar Lake. On Day 4, prepare for the toughest climb of the trek: scaling the Gadsar Pass (13,800 ft). The view from the top, looking down at Krishansar and Vishansar simultaneously, is the iconic KGL photograph.

Day 5, 6 & 7: Satsar to Gangabal to Naranag

Trek through the boulder-strewn Satsar (Seven Lakes) region. Climb the final Zaj pass to witness the massive Gangabal lake under the shadow of Mt. Harmukh. On the final day, endure a knee-testing, steep descent into the ancient temple ruins of Naranag.
