Uncover the magic of the Himalayas with our elite travel services.
Often described as the most beautiful trek in India, the Kashmir Great Lakes (KGL) Trek is an epic 7-day alpine expedition. It traverses three high-altitude passes and reveals a hidden world of pristine, turquoise glacial lakes.
The trek traditionally starts from Shitkadi (near Sonmarg) and ends at Naranag. Over the course of a week, you will witness six massive alpine lakes, including the twin lakes of Vishansar and Krishansar, the mythical Gadsar Lake (Lake of Fishes), and the twin lakes of Nandkol and Gangabal nestled at the foot of Mount Harmukh.
Difficulty: Moderate to Difficult. This is NOT a beginner's trek. You will cross three mountain passes above 13,000 feet: Nichnai Pass, Gadsar Pass (13,800 ft, the highest point), and Zaj Pass. Excellent cardiovascular fitness and prior Himalayan trekking experience are highly recommended.
The KGL trek has a very tight weather window. The trails open in early July and close by early September. The best time to go is mid-July to August, offering a perfect escape when the rest of India is battered by heavy monsoons.
